What is open adoption?

In adoption, there are levels of openness. The birth family and the adopted child have the potential, in the future, to develop a one-on-one relationship with each other. The birth family and adoptive family can agree on varying levels of openness, from meeting in person, to exchanging communication, letters and/or pictures through the agency, or to complete confidentiality if you so desire.
