We believe that placing a child for adoption is the ultimate act of unselfish love. Birth parents considering adoption will be educated on current Ohio law about adoption as well as the option of creating an open, semi-open or confidential adoption. Birth parents who choose to make an adoption plan have the opportunity to select a family that they feel will best meet the needs of their child. Ongoing services are available for birth parents, including counseling and assistance with maintaining openness in adoption.
Families or individuals who are interested in becoming adoptive parents must go through a detailed and demanding approval process involving paperwork, background checks, interviews, and training classes. We get to know our families very well before recommending them for adoption. Families who want more information about adoption may contact us.
We work with both domestic and international adoptions. We are a Cooperating Agency with Holt International in Eugene, Oregon. In addition, we work with many other international agencies in providing family assessments/home studies, adoption preparation, information, and post-placement supervision. Children from China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, India, Liberia, and other countries have been placed with our adoptive families.
Our agency is non-profit; however, adoption expenses can still be costly. Ohio Job and Family Services recently partnered with Fifth Third Bank to provide loans to prospective adoptive parents. The federal government offers an adoption tax credit to qualifying families. More information is available at www.irs.gov.
